Alameda County Public Health Department / Fatherhood Initiative

The Alameda County Public Health Department’s Fatherhood Initiative is dedicated to empowering fathers and male caregivers through education, skill development, and supportive services that strengthen families and communities. This program focuses on promoting responsible fatherhood and fostering healthy relationships by providing parenting classes, life skills training, and individualized case management tailored to men’s needs. Designed with a male-centered approach, the initiative helps participants build effective communication, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution skills—key tools that support positive parenting and healthy anger management.

Working in collaboration with programs such as First 5 Alameda County’s Father Corps, Healthy Start Initiative, and Black Infant Health, the Fatherhood Initiative ensures early intervention and continuous support for families. Through specialized support groups, capacity-building workshops, and health promotion campaigns, the program encourages men to take an active role in their children’s lives while improving their overall well-being.

The Fatherhood Initiative primarily serves Alameda County fathers and males from adolescence through adulthood, with special attention to those reentering the community after involvement with the justice system or those facing health or family challenges. By improving access to health care, social services, and emotional support, the initiative helps participants manage stress, develop patience, and learn practical strategies for controlling anger in family and community settings. Through these efforts, the program contributes to building stronger families and healthier communities across Alameda County.
