Cal Voices is California’s oldest peer-run advocacy organization, dedicated to empowering individuals and families affected by mental health challenges through education, outreach, and support. Established in 1946, Cal Voices has been a leading force in promoting recovery, resiliency, and inclusion within the public mental health system. The organization believes in elevating the voices of those with lived experience, ensuring that clients and families are recognized as primary stakeholders in shaping the services that impact their lives.
At the heart of Cal Voices’ mission is the belief that recovery is possible for everyone. Their programs are built on principles of empowerment, personal growth, and connection—helping individuals develop essential coping strategies, improve communication, and manage emotions more effectively. Through peer support and community-based programs, participants are encouraged to explore practical tools for handling stress, frustration, and conflict in healthier ways—an approach that aligns closely with the goals of anger management and emotional regulation.
Cal Voices also provides professional training through its WISE U Peer Certification program, preparing individuals to become certified peer specialists and mental health advocates. Their efforts extend beyond direct support to include public education, advocacy for policy change, and ongoing initiatives that reduce stigma and promote equality in behavioral health care. With a strong foundation in compassion, collaboration, and lived experience, Cal Voices continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those seeking hope, healing, and long-term recovery across California.
