For more than 75 years, the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) has been dedicated to building healthier lives, stronger families, and a safer, more vibrant Santa Barbara County. Established in 1949, CADA provides a full continuum of prevention, education, and treatment programs addressing substance use and co-occurring mental health issues for both youth and adults. Through partnerships with schools, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community organizations, CADA delivers compassionate, evidence-based care to help individuals regain control of their lives.
Among its adult services, CADA offers specialized treatment programs that include withdrawal management, residential recovery, and outpatient counseling through its Project Recovery program. These services address not only substance use but also related concerns such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. Anger management is an important component of these programs, helping clients develop healthier coping strategies, improve communication, and manage stress without resorting to harmful behaviors. Participants learn practical tools to recognize emotional triggers and respond calmly and constructively—key skills for rebuilding relationships and maintaining long-term recovery.
CADA also offers family-focused programs through the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Centers, school-based therapy, and mentoring and parent support services designed to help children and parents strengthen emotional resilience and communication. Programs are offered in both English and Spanish, and no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. Through its holistic and inclusive approach, CADA continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout Santa Barbara County.
