The Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center (MCOC) in Greenville, Kentucky, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges to live more independently and productively. As a Behavioral Health Multi Specialty Group through Kentucky Medicaid, MCOC offers comprehensive, client-centered programs that focus on emotional growth, skill development, and community inclusion. Central to its mission is the EXPLORE Program, where clients are paired with trained Community Support Associates (CSAs) who provide individualized mentoring. These professionals use behavioral and psychiatric tools to help clients build emotional regulation, anger management, crisis coping, and interpersonal communication skills—key abilities for improving relationships and overall well-being.
In collaboration with on-site Clinical Social Workers, each client and their family participate in developing personalized treatment plans designed to promote independence and enhance quality of life. MCOC also provides vocational opportunities through partnerships with local businesses such as Plastic Products Co. Inc., and operates the Opptastic Thrift Store, where clients gain real-world work experience, develop fine motor and time management skills, and earn a paycheck.
By combining behavioral health services, life-skills coaching, and employment training, MCOC creates a supportive environment where individuals can thrive. The organization’s holistic approach not only fosters self-sufficiency but also builds stronger, more inclusive communities where every individual has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully.
