The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is deeply committed to strengthening the educational, emotional, and cultural well-being of its members through a wide range of supportive programs. Rooted in Anishnaabek values, the Tribe’s Education Division provides lifelong learning opportunities for all ages—ensuring every individual has access to resources that foster academic achievement, personal growth, and community engagement. From early childhood programs and K–12 tutoring to GED assistance, college scholarships, and workforce development, these initiatives are designed to empower tribal members to succeed regardless of background or circumstance.
Beyond academics, the Tribe prioritizes the development of healthy social and emotional skills. Through the Youth Education & Activities (YEA) Program, students can participate in after-school programs, leadership conferences, and cultural activities that build self-awareness, communication, and respect for others—important qualities that also support effective anger management and conflict resolution. The Tribe’s holistic approach recognizes that emotional regulation, cultural identity, and personal discipline are key components of lifelong success.
Cultural preservation is woven throughout all programs, offering youth and adults opportunities to engage in traditional crafts, storytelling, and teachings that strengthen identity and resilience. Whether through mentorship, leadership training, or community-building events, the Sault Tribe encourages every participant to embrace balance across the four directions of the medicine wheel—academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual. By blending education, tradition, and personal development, the Tribe helps individuals grow into strong, confident, and compassionate members of their community.
