Great Things Foundation, Inc., established in 2010, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals and families affected by substance abuse, incarceration, and life challenges. Based in Winterville, North Carolina, the foundation focuses on helping people rebuild their lives through education, housing, recovery support, and community engagement. Their programs are designed to promote personal growth, prevent substance use, and encourage long-term stability and independence.
One of their cornerstone initiatives is the Transitional Housing Program, which offers safe and supportive housing for women and individuals transitioning from incarceration or inpatient treatment—an essential step toward sustained recovery and self-sufficiency. For youth, the Summer and After-School Programs and “Fearfully & Wonderfully Made” Girls’ Group focus on preventing substance use and other high-risk behaviors through education, mentoring, self-esteem building, and life-skills development. These programs also include tutoring, GED preparation, computer training, and field trips that promote positive choices and personal achievement.
The foundation’s “I CAN” Tuition Assistance Program provides scholarships and support for former substance abusers and ex-offenders seeking to pursue higher education, while its Vocational Training and Skills Building Program equips participants with practical job skills and trade certifications to foster self-reliance. Additionally, the Alcohol, Drug & Addiction Related Program Initiative offers counseling and educational support for those working toward abstinence and recovery.
Through compassion, structure, and empowerment, Great Things Foundation helps individuals overcome barriers, manage emotions like anger and frustration, and develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in recovery and contribute positively to their communities.
