About ALCOHOL & DRUG ABUSE COUNCIL OF DEEP EAST TEXAS
The Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council views chemical dependency as a chronic, progressive, and fatal disease that requires ongoing treatment involving family/support and abstinence from mind-altering substances. Their goal is to provide quality outpatient treatment focused on recovery and maintaining sobriety from drug/alcohol addiction.
The Council's prevention and treatment services cover a 12-county region in deep east Texas including Angelina, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, and Tyler counties. Their outreach, screening, assessment, and referral (OSAR) program serves 15 counties by also including Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange.

Texas requires individuals to complete state-approved DWI education courses following convictions in order to regain driving privileges and fulfill probation requirements.
For a first-time DWI offense, the 12-hour DWI Education Program consists of three 4-hour night classes per week. Upon completion, attendees receive a certificate sent to the Department of Public Safety to confirm compliance for reinstatement of their driver's license. Classes require a minimum of 5 and maximum of 25 students.
Repeat DWI offenders with two or more convictions must complete the more extensive 32-hour DWI Intervention Program over 8 weeks, with two 3-hour classes weekly. Successful participants are issued a Repeat Offender Program certificate that is also forwarded to the Department of Public Safety to demonstrate fulfillment of educational requirements for license reinstatement. These classes have a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 students.
Both mandated programs aim to educate offenders about the risks of drunk driving with the goal of preventing future incidents and promoting community safety upon completion of court-ordered supervision.
